Getting Started

What ages are these workshops appropriate for?

The LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method is best when used by adults or older teens, because it involves building your thoughts using metaphors.  Younger children can be very literal and struggle with using LEGO to represent their ideas. If you’re interested in something playful and adapted to family- and youth-friendly, we can customize a workshop that involve kids or mixed-age groups.

What if I’m not creative or haven’t used LEGO since I was a kid?

That’s totally okay and actually expected! You don’t need to be creative, artistic, or have experience with LEGO bricks. The LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method is about expressing ideas through simple models. Everyone can do it, and we’ll guide you step by step. It’s about clarity, not craftsmanship.

What makes LEGO SERIOUS PLAY different from other team-building activities?

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY goes beyond icebreakers or games—it’s a structured method designed to unlock deeper insights and engage everyone in the room. Participants use their hands to build and their words to reflect, resulting in richer conversations, better understanding, and more lasting takeaways.

Is this therapy or coaching?

Playformative workshops are not therapy. While they can be deeply meaningful and reflective, they’re designed as facilitated group experiences focused on communication, problem-solving, and creative insight. Coaching elements may be included, especially in the Growth Coaching Playbook, but we’re not a substitute for mental health or clinical care.

What if my group doesn’t normally talk much or tends to be reserved?

That’s exactly the type of group this method works well with. The hands-on approach gives everyone something to focus on and talk through even those who are usually quiet. The structure levels the playing field so every voice gets heard without pressure.

Do you only work with businesses?

Not at all! While we love working with teams and entrepreneurs, we also support individuals, couples, families, nonprofits, and communities through our four Playbooks. Growth, connection, and clarity are for everyone.

Workshop Details

What kind of prep is required from us before a workshop?

Very little! We’ll schedule a short planning call to understand your goals and logistics. For in-person workshops, we bring all materials. For virtual sessions, we handle shipping. You just show up ready to build and participate.

Will the workshop be tailored to my team or event?

Yes! We take time to understand your group’s dynamics, needs, and goals, then design a workshop session (or series) that meets you where you are and helps you move forward with clarity and confidence.

How many people can participate in a workshop?

Most workshops are designed for up to 20 participants per facilitator. For larger groups, we can add co-facilitators or break the group into smaller sessions to keep the experience hands-on, interactive, and meaningful.

Do you offer virtual workshops?

Yes! All Playformative workshops can be delivered online or in person. For virtual sessions, we ship LEGO kits directly to participants and use Google Meet, digital whiteboards, and breakout rooms to keep things engaging and collaborative.

Do you work with hybrid teams or remote participants?

Yes! Playformative workshops are designed to be flexible and inclusive. We work with fully remote teams, hybrid setups, and distributed participants across time zones. Virtual sessions are hosted on Google Meet, with LEGO® kits shipped to each participant, and we incorporate digital tools to ensure full engagement.

However, we are not able to offer workshops for both remote and in person participants at the same time.

How long are the workshops?

Workshops can be as short as 60 minutes or span multiple days, depending on your goals. Whether you’re looking for a focused reset, a creative kickoff, or a full retreat experience, we’ll help you choose the format that fits.

What’s included in a Playformative workshop?

Every workshop includes:

• A trained facilitator to guide your group
• LEGO kits and any needed materials
• A customized session plan based on your goals

Can you create a custom workshop for my event or group?

Absolutely. We regularly design custom sessions for leadership retreats, team offsites, client events, and even milestone celebrations. Just tell us what you’re hoping to accomplish, and we’ll build the experience around it.

Can we combine workshops from different Playbooks?

Absolutely. While each Playbook is a cohesive experience, we can mix and match sessions or themes based on your group’s unique needs. For example, you might pair a marketing workshop with a leadership session during a team retreat.
